The teachers as a writer was a class that taught me that promoting writing as enjoyable is important, and it should be modeled to the students. The only way to become a good writer is by writing. Quick Writes is an activity that I have implemented in my classroom. Students write for five minutes about topics on the board, or of their preference. They write without worrying about grammar or spelling, just transmitting a message. The most important thing I learned: Write with your students, write to be aware of what stumbles the students might face and how to overcome them. Write to go through the process together, and so that students can see that you will face challenges, just as them. Reading and writing go hand in hand, and their writing process is another way to monitor their reading process. As my students become better readers, I will be able to assess this progress through their writing.
